More and more at my favourite fly fishing spots on the river nearby I am noticing bait fishers cleaning out pools of everthing that will bite. The last bunch I encountered were using worms, barbed hooks and keeping fish under 12 inches, all illegal here on the Cowichan R. on Van. Island.
The problem of persons blatantly breaking fishing regs is not unique to here I,m sure. Can,t decide if I should report these fools....what would you do?

Report the activity. Even if you don't have specific Ids of persons or license plates this might get the COs to check these spots. If the COs know about illegal activities constantly occuring in an area they should be checking it out.

by all means rat them out. I can't stand the bucket gangs either. If people want to keep that much fish they should go to fish farms, there are alot of people who buy a rod and go without even knowing the regs. ignorance is no excuse, they deserve to get charged.

Wulfy.....
I believe we both know the answer to this question. Give the tips line a call and make sure that you have a complete description, licence, etc. I might suggest retaining the reference locating number and follow it up in a few months. I have associates that have effectively done this.

We all pay when greedy people poach. Underprivileged people, uneducated, or young, I try to handle as a polite "educational moment". Others, that are exploiting.....the answer is clear.

PS There is a great "Report A Poacher" program in Alberta that used to see thousands upon thousands of stickers put on vehicles....a very subtle but effective deterrant.

PSS Give me a call when you are going through Hope. I am in Napanee this week and am tentatively considering a trip (work) to Van Island.

Regards
Don Stokes
