While attending an Ottawa fishing club meeting last night I found out that it is illegal to trailer a boat with just the trailer chain "s " hooks attached to the appropriate holes in the tow vehicle"s bumper.
The "s" hooks must be taped so that they cannot fall out or better yet a safety clip used in place of these hooks.
The O.P.P. are pulling vehicles over on the highways and fining the driver.

Many Thx Haybay Larry. Will get safety hooks soonest. One wonders when this changed and why various fishing & boating related info sites did not put the word out. The requirement does make sense though.....Hookset

I've heard this before HBL, not sure I believe it quite yet :!:

While I think it makes great sense, this iem I found from the Ontario Government, cleary states, the clasping kind are recommended only :!:

If the laws changed, I can't believe they wouldn't mail notifications to everyone who has a trailer registered :!:

Just food for thought :!:

I built a trailer 4 years ago,and I had to put the snap type hooks on then,I think that was the first year you had to have them.

I've been aware of this for about 2 years now. I was told a couple of years ago by someone who was pulled over leaving Napanee to the west 401 exit. MOT said it was required and had alreay ticketed a few people by then. In regards to posting the new law(?), there are many new laws that are put in place without no prior posting or warning. Haa the beauty of changing the laws without the public's knowledge.

two years ago last may I was pulled over by the OPP headed up Hwy 41 for a trailer inspection. He advised me at that time that it was law that snap hooks were required instead of S hooks. The funny thing was he was so busy checking my safety stuff that he didn't notice I was running without a licence plate(I'd just painted the trailer and forgot to put it back on).
