Had a great finish to the open water season. Headed out of Tip of the Bay with a good friend Saturday morning with the water much calmer than I expected. Started out on the south shore at the first point outside the harbour with the transom electric motor. Lures in the water for five minutes and first fish on. Brought a beautiful 11.1 lb. walleye to the boat on the HJ14 in G/B with 1/2 ounce snap on weight in 30 ft. of water. Couple of photos, then released.

Did a couple passes by the same point and then switched up to a Rebel 4 1/2" suspending ghost minnow in Blue with G finish silver/chartreuse scale belly, still using the snap weight. Proved to be hot lure of the day as we landed 2nd fish, a 10.11 lb'er. Offered the rod to my fishing buddy but in classic east coast style, he said "Paulie, there's two things in life you never share, your wife and your fish". He should've taken it. Went on to get a 3rd, a very plump 13.2 lb. fish, then two fish on and off. Things slowed down for awhile. Picked up a final fish late in the morning, a 10.8.

Four for six for the morning, but all fish on one rod. Go figure. I couldn't buy my fishing partner a fish. We marked fish consistently in the bay, but they were concentrated along the south shore, over 30 ft. of water. Only active fish seemed to be off the one point. My buddy said he knew when he was beat so we were off the water for some bacon and eggs around 12 noon. Hopefully, everyone else had some fun as well. Time to winterize. See you when the water hardens.

Glad you had a great last day on the water Paulie. it seems to ba ashame to have to put the boat away in what seems to be "PRIME TIME".
Myself I am hoping to get out on Thurs to Sunday. I already booked the time off work. As long as the water doesn't get "stiff", I'll be there.

I'd love to think there's another week or so left but not with water temps at 38 degrees Saturday and forecasted lows in the double digits the next few nights. Ice was already forming Sunday morning. We're a bitter -16 tonight, -25 with windchill. Unless something changes, we won't get another weekend in (at least not in Picton Bay). Maybe out in Long Reach if you can out there. Sounds like just about everybody got some fish on the weekend. They were all over.
