You know, drowning is a horrible way to go.....

Well when you are wearing a floater suit have ropes and ice picks plus spud your way out that is pretty safe as long so you know when to stop and turn around just like I did I know what safe ice looks like and I would not venture out if I was not safe I have a five year old little boy and a wife I would not be going out there if it was not safe witch it wasn't, so I got off

I personally have to agree with Perchslayer666. 1 to 2 weeks of waiting time. Especially at Christmas. Wouldn't it suck for the family now.

I agree with Wallyman and a few others...wouldn't it be tragic for the sake of a few more weeks, I am confident the fish will still be somewhere in the Bay.

From experience the only safe Ice I know is a couple of cubes from your own freezer, mixed with a wee bit of Whiskey or Scotch and one can argue that it spoils the taste...but alas, not if you drink it fast enough!

Cheers ...and a safe happy holiday season to all.

There's nothing wrong with people going out on early ice if they are experienced and use all safety precautions. It's the inexperienced people that get in trouble and give ice fishermen a bad name. Although I use all safety precautions, I personally will not venture out on early ice, (on Quinte anyways) because I don't have the experience or confidence yet, but for those people that do, I say go for it!!!

My 2 cents!!!

Wasn't trying to offend anyone by calling them an "idiot", assumed it would be common knowledge to anyone out on what you deem safe ice this time of year anywhere south of 7. It would be a horrible time of year for someone's family to suffer thru a funeral for the sake of a fish or two from the bay. It sends a wrong message to anyone driving by on highway 2 that this is safe ice. I can't imagine someone's anguish knowing someone drown because they saw me out on the ice and they thought it was safe ice because they are not as "experienced " as I for being out there. The bay is sketchy all over right now and it is the wrong message for responsible anglers to be out in full view of anyone driving by. Just my 2 cents.....wasn trying to offend anyone..........be safe and responsible. Cold weather will hopefully be here soon enough and this post will be for nothing........................

I agree with Steve (Walleye Won) A little ice is ok as it doesn't really take away from the taste. As for the rest of the post, to each their own, what's good for others might not be what we consider good.

Hope everyone have a Merry Xmas and I'll see you on the ice (just a bit later this year)

Ya, not sure I'm liking being called an "idiot" either. Me and my crew have iced and released 10 walleye in the past few days. If you don't know where the ice is, stay off. If you do be care full. There IS ice in the area.... Two of us where on quads last night heading to our 6" of ice and brought our huts...

Be safe and now your ice. :)

PS.. I don't fish Potter's so I can not give an update on ice conditions there.

People fishing at Glen Ross has more ice there then the Bay Of Quinte.

To the guy that made a comment about me saying only "2 " inches of ice, I was joking about standing side by side on 2 inches of ice. Best way to see if ice is safe is to get out and test it! Also I don't post pictures of big fish on here anymore because people automatically assume you kept them even though you are entitled to your legal limit one over etc.

I usually check ice myself but I haven't had the time this week, does anyone know if potters lost much ice the last few days?
