Quinte Fishing

I have been researching Channel catfishing and have found that the Trent is one of the closest place for them near me (Bowmanville). I was thinking of shore fishing near the dam (not from it) at Chester road. I read that there is a fence there now. I was wondering where I can park and can I access the river from the east , west or both sides? I'm not looking for a specific spot, just the basics. Parking and access to the river. Any help is appreciated.
