How long does this alge bloom last on the bay and does it affect you fishing?

Alge bloom affects fishermen more then the fish. It only covers the top of the water column.

Some guy on another forum said that he got all kind of itchy spots from getting wet while launching and retrieving his boat in the bay - says his legs and crotch got all covered with some pimples that itch like hell - hopefully this stuff goes away once it starts getting cold -

That sounds like symptoms of spiny water fleas.

Update: went to hay bay this past week and realized how alge was really in there. The water was very calm and shoreline top water was laced with green. Saw small clusters floating all througout the bay during the day. Avoided touching the stuff while launching thanks to reading this post. 2 girls swimming at the launch with toddlers at Shermans on the way back in, they left before we got in or I would have warned them although there are clearly posted warning signs at the launch.

If its Blue/Green Algae it can be nasty stuff. It can contain toxins that can cause severe skin rashes. Not really supposed to eat fish during a blue/green alage bloom.
