I made it down to Quinte again this weekend. I was out on the water before the sun came up on Saturday. We fished hard out by the Bat Cave & Light House area. We noticed a lot of marks in 120-130 FOW. No action until around 2pm, when we finally landed our first active walleye. It was 27 inches in length. Shortly after we landed a monster, it was 32 inches, with a 20in girth. We took a quick photo and placed it back in the water. Surprisingly, the board didn't show much movement for the big fish, we figured it only had weeds on it! My buddies were pretty fired up, watching the boards like hawks for the rest of the day!

Sunday AM was a cold one, turns out a little too cold for my gear shift on my big motor!!! I broke it putting it into gear because it was froze up. So i started the kicker and trolled up at the concrete plant. Only caught 1 lake trout. Water was colder there, about 44. Temp was around 48 where i had fished on Saturday.

Did anybody else encounter the markers for what looks like NETS, just to the east of the ferry? Is that commercial fishing or MNR? And how far away do you normally stay from the markers while trolling?

and yes, we were the boat playing the "chicken dance song"

Nice fish guys and good report. It is surprizing to hear you got a laker at the plant. Normally that is where the walleye play.

I stayed in Picton for a few days 3 weeks ago and spoke to a few people shore fishing at night. They said they were fishing for walleye and LAKE TROUT!!! I couldn't believe it either, but they say they have been doing it for years.

Too funny BigMac... I've never fished for trout in the 35 years I've been fishing, so I don't really pay attention to the regs on them. Just telling the stories I heard and never really thought much of it. Unfortunately, it's happening right in the parking lots of the hotels, campgrounds and launches anywhere close to water in Picton.

Apparently the MNR released a bunch of broad stock lakers at Glenora a few weeks ago. Joe (PbandJ charters) has more info on this I believe. There have been a bunch of them caught in Picton bay and around thompsons and Sherman's.

The markers are for commercial fishing nets. I believe this are nets set for perch. I can inquire about how close you can get to them.

My season has been tough. Getting fish everyday for the most part but certainly very low numbers. I'm embarrassed of how many 1, 2, and 3 fish days I've had. Not very many 5+ fish days this fall.

The nets are down fairly deep. They only come about 2-3' off bottom. They are for perch. If your fishing deep you could catch them so it's best to give them some space but certainly not something you'll hang your engine up in.
