New law against animal cruelty has the potential to wreak havoc on rural life if passed

This Bill, if passed, could result in it being possible for you to face criminal prosecution if you catch a fish and place it in your livewell. You could even be charged if you baited a hook with a minnow, leech or nightcrawler. If Bill C-246 were ever to become law, simple and legal fisherman and hunters could be labelled criminals, fined $10,000 and sentenced to five years in prison.

If you click the link they give a better explanation of what the bill is about.

I don't know, I have read a few things on it and it seems like a lot of fear-mongering to me. I see people like the guy who killed the muskie last year and seen all over the internet as being slapped a little harder and for puppy-mills and the like. But for fisher people and whatnot I don't see them prosecuting anyone over keeping a fish because provincial laws take precedence and they allow us to keep fish, but keeping salmon for nothing but their roe will be punishable, which I think we all agree is sometimes needed.

dont think that is the intent of bill it's just a poorly worded draft. Maybe a bit of fear mongering but I think it was good that it was identified and people kept retweeting it etc, should get it rewritten in its final version.

I'll stop hunting and fishing when I'm cold and dead, even then use the worms that feast on me

Yes, and Alan Rock said the federal gun registration was only going to cost 500 million. It was well over 2 billion when the Conservatives cancelled it.

I hate majority governments, no matter which party.

Just MHO,

Al

The outdoor sports business in Canada is worth something like $8 billion a year. There is simply no way that this legislation is going to pass as presented and put that industry at risk. It might not hurt to talk to your MP the next time you see him just to reinforce your feelings but business is business and the angling and hunting lobby will flex their muscle to ensure it's altered. At the end of the day, the government won't pass it as it stands.
An aside, the draft legislation was crafted in a committee with a lot of animal rights groups input and that's why its so wide sweeping. You might question the intelligence of politicians, and rightfully so, but a lot of them know which side of their bread is buttered.

Extremist thinking by a special interest group. Sickening!
