Quinte Fishing

Looking for recommendations on fishing kayaks. I would like to purchase on. Is tgere any you can stand up in?

I have a Hobie Outback.Great all around fishing kayak.I can stand and fish in it.For a little more room a Hobie Pro Angler. The mirage petal drive is awesome for trolling, even in winds.Perfect for windy Bay of Quinte. If you want a paddle kayak, I'd recommend something from Jackson's lineup. I had a Jackson Cuda 12 before my Hobie and loved it. Biggest thing to look for when choosing a fishing kayak is the most comfortable seat you can afford. I can spend 8 to 10 hrs on the water in my Hobie and not be uncomfortable. Same with my old Jackson.

I have a Hobie Pro Angler 14, great for the day on the water , the pedal system is really easy on the knees, one of the main reasons I got it. You can stand no problem at all but you can also get an H bar to attach and gives you support while standing. Like Spyman said the seat is the key thing, I can spent hours on it and have no issues at the end of the day , has great lumbar support and you can set 2 positions, lower and upper,(raises up about 5-6 inches) Makes a difference when site casting. Only downside is it is heavy 140lbs so you need to get it close to the water to unload or if you get the wheels to slide into the scuppers for moving it that way. Easy to monover with the rudder and really stable in the wind and waves.

X3 for Hobie kayaks, but they aren't cheap, if they happen to be out of your price range, an excellent kayak is the Pelican catch 120, they are sold at Canadian tire for $999.99 they are a sit on top style with different seat positions, 34 inches wide and you can stand up in them, they are very stable and will last a long time and well under 100lbs. 400lb weight capacity. My sister owns one and I have used it many times.

Myself, I use the Wilderness Systems, Tarpon 120. It's completely outfitted for fishing after a few of my own modifications and I love it. One of the best things I love to do while fishing, especially while it is hot outside is to sit on the kayak sideways with my feet hanging in the water. It's great when the days are breezy, as it helps to slow the drift, and keeps me cool. It's quite stable. So, if you are looking for something, and don't mind the paddle, this is my vote.

Check with Stacy at Pro Tackle...I believe he just got into selling Kayaks two or three years ago.

Also, if you can find a place that you can try them out, all the better. It's been a while now, but when I picked up my Tarpon 120 it was from a place in Frontenac and they would let you try out which ever one you may like. Great way to get a feel for the yak. Also picked up another fishing yak last year from Clearwater Designs in PEC- same thing, you can try them out! After all, if you are going to be spending many hours in them, make sure they are comfortable and something you fish from comfortably!

I also use wilderness systems . I have a pungo 120 and 140. Fully outfitted for angling. Very stable and comfortable with very easy adjustment of seating while still sitting in the kayak . This puts it above many other brands in the price category IMO.
If your not comfortable, it's not fun. If you are comfortable, it's a blast

I too use a Pungo 140 from Wilderness systems. I perfer sit inside to stay dry and comfortable the yak is fast too hear`s mine fully rigged
