OK so what do I do with say, a 22" walleye I catch in the local derby/tournament. They will be live-released eventually but are we allowed to keep them in the livewell all day first?????

TIA

My understanding of the MNR regs are...
Fish in your live well (alive or dead) are in your possession, therefore you have to release all of the slot size fish.

All of the lakes up here in the Ottawa area all have different slot sizes so I have a stainless steel ruler mounted to the gunnel of my boat.

There would be no point in entering anything that would not make it into the top ten and no advantage to carrying an entry fish in the live well any longer than you have to because you can't upgrade and the longer you carry it the less chance for survival. You only get one entry per day unless its a tagged fish under 19" so best make it a good one.
