Got out this morning for the first time this year, had just planned on trolling around for a bit a checking out everything on the boat but. After trolling from northport shoal to trident point at just over 1mph I had nothing. Thought I would just shoot down to the telegraph narrows and have a look. Trolling around again with bottom bouncer and gulp worm I picked up some new growth weed at 14 feet. I hit spot lock and started casting a bill Lewis rattle trap, would let it just fall to bottom and reel back fast enough to touch weed tops. Didn't take long and smash a nice walleye 3.12lbs. I lost two others in about 20 min both right at the boat. The one I did land was just hooked with one treble on the tip of its lip so I assume the others were same. Had the spot but need to work on the technique.

Nice you finally got out Howard. I've been out 4 times this year and have found too, the Wallskies have only one treble in their mouth. The larger ones (over 4lbs ) have the whole treble hook. I've been trolling with a very loose drag.

I never had the correct rod and line combination for cranking soft biting wallayes, just planned on trolling for a bit. Going to hit them tomorrow with the correct equipment. I hate trolling so I am glad to find some early weed growth, really love the spot lock on the minn kota. Keep catching them Dave.
