Been a member of this board for about 8 years now but spent the last three years away from the BOQ area.
I've been doing well CnR'ing walleye but looking for something I can throw on the bbq.
Looking for advise with regards to salmon fishing from my Hobie PA. I've got and have used the downrigger and electronics plenty of times for west coast kings but I would imagine Lake Ontario kings are a whole different game. Any advise would be greatly appreciated....ie. where and when.
My best guess would be trolling 5 inch blades in the coolest water I can find around the major tribs.

Thanks for any advise and so glad to be back in God's country.

There are far more experienced Lake O anglers on here than i, but i have been out most summer in the lake with great catches. I don't think you will find any staging quite yet, but maybe in the next 3-4 weeks. I have been tagging some reallly nice 20+ pounders out in 140 - 340 FOW. If you can make it out, try around wicked bank @ 100 - 120' / 70 ' down (thanks to sunrisecottages for that tip) and off Wicklow between 140 out to McAllister patch. Lots of luck out there this year.

I didn't have a scale on me, but caught one fish which i might have thought was 30 lbs on weighted steel out 300' ... what a fight on wire !

good luck

Thanks for the heads up Biff. I appreciate the advice. Looks like I'll just keep on playing with the walleye for a bit yet and try to find a trophy in the BOQ somewhere.
Can't wait to get back on the hard water.

It's not to early to start fishing staggers. I've been catching staggers all week. Start fishing In 40fow first thing in the morning, and work your way out. Don't let the warm water scare you away. They are there. Some North Shore Creeks already have fish in them. Good Luck!

I would suggest the Spoonpullers forum. There is a specific thread about Yak fishing salmon.

I used to do a bunch of kayak fishing for salmon back in the GTA from my Hobie as well.

3 way swivel with a good weight and a suspending jerkbait or spoon, 75-175 feet of water and troll along at 2-3 mph or so would produce results. Early morning was the only time we bothered as the waves get a bit too raucus in the afternoon/evening.

The same formula may not apply here but the bottom line is it's not too crazy out there super early on a reasonably calm day. I'd be happy to head out with you at some point. I have a 2015 PA12 and I also fish the bay for walleye/bass pretty regularly.
