Ventured out on the Bay of Quinte for the Day this past Friday. The forecast was for high winds from the West / south-west and I thought it would be a little bumpy all day but I was able to motor out in the morning full throttle and back at the end of the day full throttle but it was pretty gust at times during the day but not bad for trolling along.
We launched in Picton and motored out to just past the Ferry. In about 80 feet of water we started setting up on the North side of the channel. My partner had just let 150 feet of line out on the first rod set out and was reaching for the planerboard to attach and the line it heading way out to the side of the boat. He grabs the rod to see if there is a fish on and sure enough there is. Unbelievable, with less than a minute of having the first line in we have a fish on. After a short tug of war we land a 27 inch, 8.5 pound Walleye caught on a Wonderbread Reef Runner.
We thought perhaps this was the start of a double digit day but no such luck, We troll around for another 6 hours without a bite. Then just as the sun is getting low in the sky, the planer board with 6 colours of leadcore goes off and this fish feels heavy. We are in 110 feet of water on the north side of the channel across from the Bat Cave. We landed a 30 inch 10 pound walleye which was caught on a purple clown Rapala Husky Jerk.
Pulling in the lines we discovered a 2 pound Walleye (Camera Shy) caught infront of the Light House in 80 feet of water. Although we don't really know how long we were towing him around. He was caught on the line that was 150 feet back with a two ounce snap weight 50 feet in front of the lure. The lure was a Purple Clown Flash Rapala Tail Dancer 11.
Evening Pink Sky to the East.
Beautiful Sunset to the West
Good Luck out there!
Cheers, Kevin
