Well put.
We all have different thresholds of what we feel comfortable for ourselves.
With that being said, no amount of walleyes is worth going for a polar dip.

Sorry just trying out Tapatalk and deleted my original post.
Finally got a spud and wanted to check wellers bay. Stopped at Lucky's to get some minnows incase ice is good and the older guy there tells me all kinds of ppl out at wellers, good 4" of ice. Get to launch and see one hut and think ok might be decent. Wrong first whack and spud goes through. I could feel ice flex under me and see water come out of pressure crack. Don't know how this guy got across but I wasn't following. It also goes to show never trust someone else's ice report.
Stay safe everyone.

Mobb.

Hey Mobb, where are you trying to get on? We've been fishing it since the week of the 17th and found 3-4 inches most of the known safer spots and it was more than 4 last night...bite has been solid.

I tried getting on from smokes point. I thought maybe if I could get over the pressure crack it would've been decent ice but didn't want wet feet. I may try from the south end if it stays cold.
Nice catch by the way!!

Flow from Consecon Creek likely has screwed up access from the south ...waiting till mid week before I even think about going out again.

Hey guys, new to the forum. Any updates on the ice on Wellers after this bit of a cold snap? I will be heading up and fishing all day/night on Saturday accessing the lake from the south west shore. Just wondering on ice conditions and how the bite has been?

Managed a small Pike and a 3lbs walleye. Not alot of snow on the ice couldn't keep the skirt down on the hut plus my heater wouldn't start. Walked out from smokes pt. Ice was solid but there is a big pressure that isn't quite frozen over yet and there is a stretch of ice that looked like it had broken up and re-froze so walking across that was a bit stressful lots of spudding walking over it but anywhere I drilled that was a good 6" of ice with lots of cracks in the black ice. Not sure if it's like that all the time you just can't see it with all the snow or what but I walked cautiously and didn't have any problems.
Tight lines and be safe everyone.

Mobb.

I was out today near the south west shore and there was 6-7inches there as well and I noticed a lot of cracks in the black ice too. Had a great morning landing 6 walleye between 3 and 8lbs with steady marks all day but they stopped comitting in the aftternoon. Unfortunately had to call it before the evening bite as the wind and cold from the day were finally getting to me. Solid morning though.

I hope everyone is ok after the snow that I heard about coming through the area! Just wondering what the area around Wellers Bay looks like after yesterdays snow. I am coming up that way this weekend to do some fishing at the cottage and hoping I don't have any issues with the snow as my car isn't the greatest in snow. I'm sure the snow will be cleared by tomorrow but any snow updates would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It is still blowing here with lots of white outs and drifting snow. Drifts in my backyard are 12 feet high. I am sure Wellars bay area is the same with a west wind.

Thanks for the reply Fisher. Ya I just saw that the wind completely changed for Saturday and is now gusts of 56km.

Might have to call it off this weekend!
