Anyone here using this Ice Helix™ 5 or the 7? Thinking about replacing the Vex and looking into different options.

Fry,

Latest Helix 5 or 7 Gen 3 would be your best option. The latest generation has the fastest processor and best software to reduce lag. There is probably no lag on your current vexilar. Battery life on a Helix will last half that of your Vexilar. Advantage of the Helix is the built in GPS that can use either Lakemaster or Navionics chips.

I Use the Vexilar FLX20 and Navionics GPS app on my iphone. I have used Lowrance HDS7 touch and Helix 9 for ice fishing but always go back to the Vexilar. I also never have interference problems between the Vexilar and any other brand depth finder near me.

Good luck. Don’t sell you Vexilar too quick. You may want to go back to it.

Same here no problems with the vex(fl12) wish I did not waste my money on the Aqua-vu though. Also use Nav on the phone, in the boat use the Hook2 7 tripleshot with Nav. Looking for a unit to put in the canoes and yak along with an ice companion for the Vex

100% agree. I've got Panoptix, but still go back to Vexilar when I really need to catch fish LOL

Upgraded to the Helix 5 GPS G2 before this winter. Only complaint about the combo was the battery humminbird included. Went to napa, picked up a 9Amp/H for $30 and it’s been smooth sailing. Really enjoying the unit overall. I find myself using the flasher now almost exclusively. Hope this helps.
