Tried Huffs today, 4 in of white ice, 1 in of black. Got 1 than got off ice after 90 minutes of fishing. Ice was shifting and making lots of noise. found 2 cracks coming off that were not their going out. Made open water 6in gap in the cracks, 100 ft from shore.

Joe, Good for you for getting off the ice. The high winds going down the reach could cause a wave through the ice. As you saw it can move the ice. In that area it may only be 3 to 4 inches thick. In very high winds there is the chance that it could cause 3” ice to break up. You never know. BATMAN

My Dad and I also fished Huffs today. We got there at 1:30 and there wasn’t a soul there which was a little unnerving, we carefully spudded our way out going over two pressure cracks with open water about 4-5 inches wide right off the start and proceeded off to the right and settled in about 25 ft of water. The ice was only about 4 inches thick 3 white and 1 black. The wind was just brutal today and needed 2 people out there to anchor the hut. It was slow going until about 4 pm then we got a couple and slowed down again until about 5:15 then we had lots of action! We iced 4 all between 4-6 lbs let a 8lb go and missed a big girl and lost 3 others. The ice was very soft and with this warm weather coming I wouldn’t recommend heading there to fish. Glad I got out once anyway this year, if I get out again it certainly won’t be at Huffs!
