I know that my fine friends to the north can help me out here.

My ex-tournament partner is now a charter captain/guide on Lake Erie (N.Y). While going through Coast Guard inspection last weekend, he was informed that in order to legally use his VHF Marine radio in Canadian waters,he would need a license. I this accurate? I thought that marine band radios did not require a license in Canada anymore.

thanks in advance

Pete Lewis

Canada made the radio station licence for pleasure craft optional but we need one to enter the US, an operators licence is still required in Canada. Your friends boat would be a commercial vessel and may need a station licence.

Does he not have an american licence?
