Don't think we mentioned this before?
When we got here early in 1996, our Neighbour intro'd us to the CC Shad as: "The Go-To Lure" for this area. Sure enough, EVERYBODY used it.
However... we brought along - from the exact s/w corner of Lake Erie/Town of AmherstBURG - the Blk 'n Chrome "Storm Hot'nTot" in regular size, diving 8-10 feet, used often with Planer Boards.
Thanks to its HUGE bill, the Lure provides a LOT of action, and quickly proved VERY effective here at the North end of The Bay - where depths average 18' max. Plenty of Folks stick with the Shad, but within a year or two, we saw the 'Tot' begin to disappear from store shelves... due to demand.
So it worked; well enough that demand became much higher.
That remains the situ today. Also... at age 77 with Health Issues, we've begun unloading stuff. The Neighbour who thankfully bought our 18 footer headed out on his maiden Voyage last week. And... ten minutes after first Rod was deployed rigged with a 'Tot' in our Honour - first Walleye boated!!
Don't get us wrong; the CC Shad remains #1 in the area. But IF you can find one, consider trying a blk/chrome reg size Hot'nTot on 6-8 pound mono. Caution: NO leader - really messes up the action. AND you need to keep the 'eye' precisely tuned. It bends easily fighting large Fish.
A friendly suggestion, from our dear old Pals on the s/w corner of Lake Erie.
Hugs, Wordpecker.
