I'd gotten some smoked whities from a fella in Demorestville a few years back, the first smoked and the first whitefish I'd ever had. They were great, so I picked up a smoker for the salmon I get. And I love my smoker!!

Anyone here fish for whitefish on the quinte?? I know places that they spawn, but have never tried to catch them.

I've seen them in the locks in Glen Ross. sometimes I'd look on the high side of the dam and there would be a whole gang of them. that's the only place I've ever seen them.

I am aware of whitefish being caught on occasion in the Bay of Quinte but they are by and large not a targetted species. Perhaps some sandy bays icefishing, from what I have observed in other parts of the country?

Thanks for your replies guys.

I've heard around and east of Glenora is a spot to try also. I was told they come to some shoals in that area to spawn and do hang around there.

Just looking for something new on the Quinte, you know...a new challenge for me on the water there. For example...I'm fishing the whole Kawartha system this summer, from Simcoe to the Quinte. I did Simcoe (Cooks Bay) for pike this week (did good too), and will be back there for whities, lakers, and bass later on. Canal Lake is next on the list. Ooooo muskie soon, Canal L. will be a poor muskie spot, but Sturgeon and Pigeon L. are really hot for muskies.

Take care fellas and thanks again for your help. :)

Whitefish used to come upto the first dam in Trenton in late Oct.early Nov.(I would guess they still do as people catch the odd one through the ice) .They were very hard to catch, there would be more of them snagged accidentely and released than would actually bite.
