What do you know about aligator gar population in bay of quinte?
did you caught any ?
I heard that they are great fishing parteners......

we have longnose gar, not alligator gar though, have to go to texas for those ones. but if you mean longnose gar, they are fun to fish for, very challenging too.

I've never caught them on spinning tackle, my brother has though, and he was using "mr. twister" jigs. I use mickey finns, zonkers with trailer hooks, and wooly buggers (fly fishing). try the Moira river, look for calm shallow spots no more than 2' deep. when you spot one, cast diagonally to the fish, they can't see in front of themselves very well. when he starts to follow, speed up your retrieve a bit so he'll charge and take a snap at it. catching these fish takes alot of patience, I usually only land 20% of the time, very hard to get a hook set on them. I like how they leap and shake like tarpon .

hey mike try dam #1 try floating rapalas and wrap yarn around them sounds silly but it works since the yarn gets caught in there teeth hope this helps good luck and be safe :wink:

that's good advice hawg boy, will have to try that with my wife, as she spin fishes and is dying to catch one. the hit surface lures with a vengeance.

Keep the sun behing you, they have no eyelids and cant see into the sun. they wont know your there

Look for some shallow sandy back bays this time of year. They'll be stacked in 1-6 FOW.
