Quinte Fishing

A very enjoyable week on the Moira river with a fly. I went out twice this week, 2 hours each night and caught 8 small mouth. I now have a small mouth hole and will continue wading up and down the river for some large mouth.

I haven't been doing very good in the Moira this year for smallies on the fly, but a few nice largemouth. yesterday managed my first bowfin on a fly and glad I brought the 8wt, those things have alot of power, caught a few gar as well. most of the gar were caught on white wooly bugs.

yeah the smallmouth bass don't seem to be as hot this year as they were last year, caught a nice 3 lb largemouth today though. Not sure what to use to catch gar pike though would like to catch one, i think you fly fish for them hoser. Any tips on what to use for gar for non fly fishers?

I would give some topwater minnow lures a try, they would definately show interest in that, baitfish being their primary diet, cast on an angle to the fish and across in front, they should give chase, but don't go to fast, the fish seem really lazy this year and don't seem to want to chase anything more than 2' away.

oh yeah, and use some fireline or a wire leader, my brother lost his Heddon torpedo lure to a gar last month.
