I have a couple of portable downriggers, will these do the trick. If so how much line do you let out behind the downrigger, is 10 feet or so lots??

Walleye will shy away from the down-rigger balls. Some days they will not touch anything off the rigger. I like to run 100ft leads and also use a stacker clip so my down-rigger balls are 20 or 30 feet bellow the line attachment point.
Also you really do not need riggers to get down 20 to 30 feet, but with 8 rods out, riggers can help with getting lines straight down in the spread.
