I have been working my butt off and have had next to zero time on the water of late but that's going to change starting Saturday morning in the St Lawrence for the weekend with the opener of smallmouth. Weather and winds look manageable and I'm pumped to take a lifelong friend (Cymbals)out, who has been fighting health issues for the last couple years but is he rearing to go. Rods are rigged, oil tank in the boat is full, batteries are charged and the news said gas is suppose to drop like 11 cents tonight which is a bonus cause the boat needs it. Report and pics to follow

I went state side on the 15th for New York side opening day. It was beautiful out and great day fishing. Lots of Ontario boats on that side that day. You’ll have a great day. Time to break some PB’s

Had a good time with the opener fishing a couple different areas of the river with John. On Saturday we launched in Ivy Lea and the winds were beautiful. Headed to an area close by and right off noticed I wasnt seeing many fish on the sonar or with my eyes. After stumbling around a bit managed to find some fish. I was expecting to see them stacked but found they were in transition. some shallow some mid depth and a couple deeper. Couldnt break 5 lbs with the closest a couple ounces shy. The next day we headed out of the mouth of the river and found better fish shallow but boy were they ever lure shy. Threw everything at them(spinnerbaits, Drop shots , spybaits, jerkbaits tubes and the list goes on) but found the ned rig worked best. Caught lots but couldnt get the bigger ones going. Went back out with Ed on Monday after John tapped out and he started things off with a 6lb smallie that absolutely crushed the spinnerbait. There is no better hit than a that, period! We caught a ton of fish all up shallow but very spooky. Long casts with subtle baits did the bulk of the work.
Shout out to John who turns 80 this summer and has been fighting health issues for the past few years that he can even stand up on the deck of a bassboat when its bouncing around from waves, rollers and wakes and stay there for hours on end after all that he has been through. The man is inspirational and I sure hope I can still be doing that at 80!!
