Hey.I was thinking that it would be good to get opinions on the best time of the year to fish the different species in Lake Ontario. Trying to get out more and optimize my time on the water. Here is what I think and it is not from experience.

Pike-first thing in the spring
Lakers- Dec-April
Browns- ?
Rainbows-?
Salmon-?
Smallmouth- ?
Walleye- Aug- ice

Thanks.
Glenn

I fish a lot for pike. I'm kind of a weirdo like that.

I know spring gets a lot of attention for pike - but I think the fall bite is where it's at. October-November I think is prime time.

I too love catching pike but have a hard time targeting them other than through the ice. I am told that the bigger ones are shallow just after the spawn and then they go deep. Are they back in shallow in the fall?

I too like pike in the fall. Mid sept and on.

I’d add salmon for July-mid Aug

Smallies for me late season and early season- Lakers - I dont have enough wheel time to judge except to say early spring and late ice, walleye - spring in the bay for eaters and numbers, August- lake O for big eyes. Pike are incidental catches for me

Yep...pike late fall
Pickerel all year
Largemouth - I could care less
Smallies - I'm not an expert on L Ontario, but hope to be. I love them, and fish a lot of smaller lakes N of 7 and in the Algonquin area.
