Pike Fishing questions

looking at the weather this weekend, Sunday is looking like a great day to get out on the big water. I never target Pike, only catch them when fishing other species, but have heard and seen some great pics on this site from fall fishing so looking for advice on location, lures, technique so I can try and put my 13 year old on a big fish? We are catch and release only, don't care to fight with Y bones. I figure we'll try trolling east of Waupoos Isl down to Cressy Pt and back and see what happens. If the wind is too much then will move inside the Reach and see if any big walleye have moved in. Last Sunday there was a bust.

This time of year look for the remaining green weeds...especially Cabbage. Fish the weed edge adjacent to the deepest water around. I personally prefer to cast rather than troll...that way I can keep my lure precisely in the zone along the transition...also I like feeling the strike when casting, and it keeps me from falling asleep.

Pike like flashy...and a stop/start retrieve. There have probably been more Pike caught on the Red Devle or Five o' Diamonds spoons than all other lures combined. I also like big spinners with bucktails or mylar skirts or tipped with soft plastic curly tails. The smaller Double CowGirls in orange/black are one of my favourites. Sometimes the Pike will be in somewhat of a negative mood...I'll then switch to a big soft pastic swim baits...5 to 8 inches. Kietech Fat Swing Impacts , Z-Man Jerk Shads and Flukes like the good ol' Sluggo have all triggered bites when they won't look at the hardware.

I agree spinners nice and bright, one of my own here with a set of double 10s with 3 colour bucktail

tks for the tips. unfortunately I didn't realize my boy had hockey, so no fishing Sunday. Hopefully this coming weekend I'll get a chance.
