Well, looks like I am lucky enough to go to Cabo this winter.

Looking to do some fishing and whale watching. Any of you have any references or suggesting's for me?

Any info would be appreciated.

Regards

Dave.

There is always fish to be had fairly close to shore but to be honest the best times if your looking for shore fishing is the month of May when roosters jacks and dorados cruise the shorelines. Insane undertows are prevelant and very dangerous so extreme caution should be observed. A patron from the hotel I was at died while I was there a few years back. I did not book with the expensive outfitters but went into town where all the boats bars and restaurants are and negotiated an outing with a young guy and his boat. I had my own rods and some tackle ( thankfully) so I just wanted someone to get me in the zone. If you go you get live bait in the morning prior to leaving by going boat to boat negotiating for it..it’s expensive I think I paid like $20 US for 3 baits. I got $60 worth but wish I had got more as it was the key to getting hooked up. Managed to get into 3 big jacks but only landed the one around 50 lbs
I paid the guy $120 for five hours and trolled for a bit with some body baits I took with me but the ticket to getting hookups at least that day was real bait.. There is a tackle store outside of town near the Walmart who sells great gear and also has connections to guides etc. it was him who told me to come down in May and you can catch fish from shore all around Cabo. Good luck if you go. I am still considering a trip again just hard to leave our great fishing in May to do so!

I did not want to book through the resort I was at. Took a taxi to the Cabos San Jose marina and talked to the captain s mid afternoon.

Booked a boat called the baha mar. We got into Dorado, wahoo, lots of skip jack trolling.

We lost a skip jack to a sea lion. Neat experience.

Humpback whales everywhere, during the fishing charter.

The trip was the end of January early, February, for timelines.

Aso booked a "party boat" trip out of San Lucas marina. Had to see the rock formation. Saw more whales during that.

Could also see humpback and dolphin breaching/ jumping from our resort just outside Cabos San Jose.

I wouldn't swim .... while watching a sunrise saw a big fin cruising the beach. It had to have been 10 feet long by judging the dorsal to tail distance. It was only like 5 yards off the shoreline
