I was out on Hay Bay near Thompson's point on Tuesday Feb 25th. It was a tough slog for walking and dragging a sled because the surface was a wet, slushy mess. Three or four inches of slop in some places. The good news: there was 9 or 10 inches of good quality black ice underneath all the crap, There were e a number of quads scooting about. It was -9 C this morning which should make the slush a bit stiffer. Hay Bay doesn't have as much current as some places, The saying "no ice is safe ice" should be kept in mind, so be cautious and avoid high current areas. The March 1st forecast calls for 45 kph wind gusts and freezing rain.
