I just got back from a very successfull trip to the Maine coast.
On Tuesday the 19th I got my first Striped Bass, not large but It got my thoughts going. After that it was slow.
Thursday the 21st, another picture perfect day at the ocean. We had not been here since catching some small mackerel 10 years earlier.
I had been fishing for about an hour the tide was rising, I put on a jig with a scented minnow and I get a strike and can't control the fish. At first it won't move and then it start's taking line. My reel holds 120 yards and I have 20 yards left on the spool. The fish is taking line so I increase the drag and put a good bend in the rod. The fish slows for a moment then the jig pulls free! Damn.
Five casts after this I hook another and am able to get it under control. After about ten minutes I bring the 45'' about 25lb. Sturgeon to the shore.
This fish was smaller than the last but put a great smile on my face   .
It was an experience I won't soon forget! My wife wants to rent a cottage at the ocean- Who am to say no!!!!!!!

Nice fish Larry!

Still looking for the cottage/house to rent? I have a friend that does only that in York Harbor (southern Maine). Tell her Matt Cannon told you to contact her, tell her we met ice fishing on the Bay or something, she'll take care of you.
