i dont want to seem like an idiot or anything but i have been fishing for many years abd never heard of a vex could someone please explain.thanks

Hey Nite work...A "VEX" is a ........wait a min....No one will ever accuse you of being an idiot. Knowledge of a "VEX" just comes with experience. If I told you now we would miss all the humorous replies from the gang here.

I am sure someone will eventually tell ya but for now be patient and lets see the comidians hav a ball with this one....

im assuming this is an in side joke being that i have been been fishing for the better part of 25 years and chartering for 5 years on the great lakes.maybe not in your area .

Nite Work,

A Vex is Hardwaterwalleyes short form name for
his depth sounder. It is an FL-8 Vexilar Flasher. It
is a depth finder used almost exclusively for ice fishing
because it works extremely well for stationary applications.
Fishing on the ice makes you very stationary. Check out
the Vexilar site to see what they are all about. These units
can detect seperation of 1/2" between objects. And they
don't freeze in -20 deg C weather like LCD displays used
by most boat fishermen.

Hey night work this is the guy that talks about the Vex alot .The is a flasher that I use on the bay to find the deaths and weed lines and fish for that matters and it also shows your bait down there as you are working it .Some guys dont believe me when I tell them that I can the differents between a bait fish and a prech and a walleye by the way they act .But thats up to them .The full name of it is VEXILAR,Some guys tell me it is my dog my friend and my only friend LMAO.You have a good day .

I bought a Sitex FL-8 in 1985 it still works as good as new and has outlasted several Humminbird and Lowerance flashers and LCD units and it gets used summer and winter. They are very robust and will provide you with alot of info it is up to you to learn how to read and use it. They were also sold as "hondex" and "vexilar"

I say a Vex being used in North Bay duing a trip this winter. They seem to work great for hardwater fishing. How do they work in a boat? Are they better than an LCD?

The Vexilar can work well in a boat as
long you do not use the bottome lock
feature. If you are in a boat and you
use this feature, a fish or cloud of baitfish
will become the bottom. The depth you
see on the display will keep changing.
Don't ask me why please. Maybe hardwater
knows. I use only LCD displays on my
boat.
