On Saturday (Sept. 29), the Inlaws were visiting us from Thunder bay. I am on the south shore of Hay bay not too far from the old church. My wifes father and I went out fishing around noon and launched down at the Church (tough launching there with the water so low). My wife and her Mom went out in the paddle boat to do a little fishing as well while we were gone.
We fished and fished and as usual had nothing to show for it. I'm from Northern Ontario and the Pickeral fishing I am used to, and as I am finding out, is much different than here. It is taking me alot of time to try to make sense of the fish habbits here and have come to the conclusion that I will likely never figure them out. Although I read this board regularly, where I have gotten alot of good insight and really commend the users for such amazingly good reports. I still cannot locate the fish. I usually resort to going wherever there are other boats which always seem to be at he same places. I then wait to read the reports posted from the weekends and compare to how I did and where I went always seem to get outfished by everyone else on the lake. This however is another topic other than what I originally set out to do with is thank someone.
As I was saying, the wife and her mom were fishing from the paddle boat as my brother, and her Dad (who I convinced to come out as I had hoped that I could show him some good Quinte fishing) and I were fishing
Sherman's/ Thompsons pts and by the old Church. We got back just before dark to find out that while we were out getting nothing (although greatly enjoying the day) that the women had netted/landed a 10 lb pike in the paddle boat. This is amazing considering neither of them will touch a fish. **Here is where the thanks come in** In a panic they were able to flag a boat over, which must have been fishing nearby, to take the hook out and un-net the Pike and send them back paddleing on thier merry way. So If you are out there and read this and you were the gentlemen who helped these 2 ladies in the middle of nowhere in a paddle boat who were probably a bit scared, I just want to say, Thanks!!!!
