Hello All,
I will be up in the area for the walleye fishing this upcoming weekend. ( Nov.10th .
I hear about guys using a "Snap Weight system" when trolling their lures.
What is this? how is it used? Where kind I find these?
I have never used this method before, most of the walleye fishing locally for me is Jigging or bottom bouncing.

Also, when trolling this time of yr, what is the general speed you should be trolling?

Thanks

Derek

Snap weights are used to get your presentation down to the fish. Basically you need to roughly know where the fish are... then you need to know what depth your lure presentation runs at and then you need to figure out how much weight to add up the line that will take your lure down to the fish you are targeting. Sounds hard but with a bit of practise you will get the hang of it.

Here are some links to info about Snap Weights you can buy them at Bass Pro or Cableas and some of the local shops around the bay might have them in stock too.

Probably some of the other lads will add info too. Good luck

Just to add to the previous details... For the most part, for every 1oz of weight that is attached 20 feet from the crankbait you gain 1/3 the depth you are already acheiving.

i.e. If your crankbait is hitting 30 feet and you add a 1oz snapweight you will now be hitting 40 feet. (1/3 of 30 is 10...30 + 10 = 40 feet)

Hope that makes sense.

Cheers Hodgey

Derek.. You got some good advice, but one thing I'd really recommend is picking up the "Big Water" edition of "Precision Trolling". Aside from great reading and lots of useful info., this book has dive curves for snap-weights as well as all the popular trolling devices and lures. One thing I like about the snap-weights is how quickly they react to speed changes. When you run them off boards, they drop like a rock or really shoot on a turn. Some days this is what really turns them on! Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)

Hi Derek,

I should have the Snap Weight systems in by the weekend. They have been order with other products and should arrive this week.

Regards,
Sam
