I heard that it was on the Radio that they just decided to bring the Tug Boat back into the mouth of the Moira River again this year. I haven't heard when it is coming yet.

That Tugboat is nothing more than a menace to the people who use the Bay in that area. He can't get near the mouth of the river cause the water is too low, so what does he do? runs a channel straight across the Bay from the Myer's Pier to the Bay Bridge.
Yeah he sure looks busy..MAKIN A MESS OF THE BAY!
I've no doubt he has a job to do but is it neccessary to smash all the ice?
I'm done now....venting online is very theraputic ...Gary

Agreed. Is it going anywhere near the river? It looked today as if he was going from Myers straight to the Bay bridge and back.

"I've no doubt he has a job to do but is it necessary to smash all the ice?"

That is the job, isn't it?

Is the frazil ice moving with this spring like weather or is he keeping it open so its not so hard on the boat later?

The boat is the way to go but they can't nickel and dime him they got to let him do his thing.

Polliwog, I'm not gonna pretend to know all about Tug Boat'n and ice smashing... it just seems to make more sense that if he is to keep the mouth of the river free of ice that he should maybe work a little closer to the river. When I wrote "is it neccesary to smash all the ice" it was in reference to a large part of the Bay that use to be used by icefishermen and still could be if he ( the tug operator ) would simply work closer to the mouth of the river. Gary , I would guess he might make this channel to the bridge because that is where he can get to the heaviest current, maybe he pushes the frazel ice out there so the current will carry it away? I really don't know.

But I do know the guy, and he's not there to give anybody a hard time.

Its to bad the intell didn't interview him so he could let everyone in on how its done. Right now its like working for a church, trying to keep the whole congregation happy.
