how many fry is the napanee hatchery putting back into the system.would it be a big job to increase the amount of fish being hatched.what about other locations(big creek etc.)

would it be possible to make this issue the main stay for every sports minded person in the country until we get the desired results.i think of many things in the past where people would say we can't do anything about that or this. but guess what changes have occurred because the people caused the change by their efforts.some how we have to get the message out there that we can conserve all we want and if the natives refuse to co-operate and spear and net fish year round the natural resourse will disappear.(nova scotia and the cod) I not quite sure how to approach the problem if the native few will not co operate, but i think if the culprits are exposed in such a way as they would be know where ever they go,where they live, where they work, any other background information available.add campains with the culprits photo's,movies of the destruction by spearing and netting.look to passsing new laws that would keep the illegal activities under control, get the politicians involved and don't let them back off by say ing they can't do anything.lets not forget this after the spearing season is over for another 12 months, netting goes on year round.focus focus and the ideas will come as well as the support.

Springside Hatchery ia capeable of holding roughly 4-5 million walleye eggs with the current water intake. A few minor mods would ne necessary.

It can also handle up to 80,000 trout or salmon eggs with the current flow.

Multiples species be it warm water (muskellunge, walleye, bass etc.), or cool water (sturgeon, trout, whitefish, salmon, etc.) are all possibilities. It is only limited by ones imagination and the ability to garner MNR/public support.

Equipment upgrades and increased pond development coupled with volunteer program growth, funding are all variables that can be dealt with.

All stocking locations are dependent on MNR endorcement. This relationship is one that has to grow in order to get the stocking of fish in more places......like the Bay of Quinte.

The original philosophy is to rear native fish from local waters and put them back into local waters. All natural......just a little helping hand in an educational setting that can do wonders in changing attitudes....and making people work work together.

* Note- my own job has now primarily been completed; it is a true community fish hatchery that I strongly urge people to support; it is up to the public to volunteer, encourage and grow this operation. The possibilities are immense.

The NDRGC has Tony Bartolo as the fish hatchery manager. I believe they are also expecting rainbow trout eggs in the near future. I believe his phone number is in the Ph. book under Deseronto. He would be able to best advise.
