Quinte Fishing

Hi folks,

Had a wonderful time... as usual... for our opening trip. Although our numbers and overall size were down, I can only attribute this to the water temperature and weather conditions. The highest surface temp we measured was on Saturday... 58 degrees. Unfortunately, the cool weather, the ENE winds, and clear nights were not letting water temps stabilize.

Our hot spots were across from Pickerel Park and the Sherman's side of Ram Island. Between the three of us we only managed to boat fifteen with seven of them being throw-back slotters. The only real bite we saw was on Saturday evening for about an hour.

All of our 'eyes were caught trolling under 1 MPH, using crawler harnesses with varying weight. Some of those bottom bouncer males we boated were darn right cold-to-touch. I can only imagine how fast the water temp dropped going down from the surface.

I think what ya'll need is a few good days in the 70's and that does not look like anytime in the near future. I imagine they will be turned on hot and heavy by your holiday later this month.

Thanks for the great post Susquinola. It looks like across from Pickeral Park around the flats is the place to be this spring. Will be up Thursday night til Tuesday night to try and make up for my poor showing on the opener.
