congratulations Tom Gustar (Targa 2) for finishing 16th out of 150 pro contestants at the PWT tournament this past week at Port Clinton Ohio. Tom won 3,200 US for his total 3 day weight of 123.64 pounds with a final day weight of 46.71 pounds (5fish) which helped his amateur partner also take home a winning weight. Tom basically used his fall Quinte trolling techniques to achieve his consistent heavy catches each day, and stated that he was nervous at first at being in the tournament with so many big name fishermen but decided to just go out and get some good pictures of some big fish like he does in quinte in the fall and everything was more relaxed and enjoyable after that. Tom was 1 of only 2 Canadians in the event, so it was nice to see him place so high ahead of such notibles as Gary Parsons, Mark Martin, etc etc. to see the final results go to http://www.liveleaderboard.com/ at walleye central website.

I want to take time to thank some people for their help at Lake Erie.

Thanks to Steve Dover and Jeff Sartor for spending all those days running all over Erie looking for fish during prefishing. $120 U.S. spent on gas for prefishing is a lot of time with no rods in the water.

Thanks to Chatter, Jerry and all his buddies for their contribution of information to shortcut the learning experience.

Thanks to my amatuer partners Tony,Steve and Judy for doing a great job of landing and netting fish. A special thanks to Steve for persuading me to stay at Kelly's Island on day 2.

Thanks to Reef Runner lures and Manns Bait for putting all of my fish in the livewell. 16th is a good start and a heck of an improvement over last season. There are still openings for amatuers at Saginaw Bay. Consider it!

Targa, you mentioned Reef Runner and Manns baits,

Were you using those unusual colours( Cheap Sunglasses etc) , which of the Manns were you using - is that a secret.

Yes I am the T Gustar from Orono.I obviously know you too.

I was doing very well on the Reefs Monkey Puke colour during practice.I would run a pattern of 20/30/50/70 and 90 feet back. I could not seem to get the Manns 20's to produce but I insisted on keeping one out there. On day three of the tourney I got my first 2 fish on a Manns at 70 ft back.I then put three Reefs at the same depth but nothing. It then occurred to me thet the Manns was a natural colour so I switched one of the Reefs to blue/silver. After another hour I boated 8 more fish.

Many of the pro's in retrospect said that they stayed with their practice programs too long. I kept changing gradually as the 8 days of weather did. It payed off.I was the highest ranking pro to come in one fish short of a 15 limit. One more average fish would have likely put me in 2nd to 5th place.Quinte has taught me many things that stood me in good stead on Erie.

Hi Tom,

When reading your responce from Targa (when you guys where ripping each other... funny) You mentioned "don't forget who showed you the pattern" as well mention of U.S. lures? Can you expand on all this... I would kill to know. I've just had a REALLY bad two years at Quinte... if you want you could send a private reponse to tonybriganti@hotmail.com.

Many thanks and I look forward to your responce.
