A native commerical fishing ruling from 1992 has been overturned in BC. It has been deemed racially disciminatory and contary to the Canadian Charter of Rights. (source: Aug. 3, Vancouver Sun, p. A3).
I found this most interesting and not a bit of a surprise. Apparently one band called the Musqueam was planning on reprisals in the form of selling salmon.
Where this could lead is much too early to tell, but is none the less an interesting item to note considering that the present concerns across much of Canada originated from the "Sparrow decision" which was from aproximately the same rough time frame. Harmony can only exist when all sides are forced to make concessions that benifit the resource harvested.
