Hey boys,
Promised a report so here it is...
First of all, thanks to Larry for directing me to the launch - found it no prob. Hit the water around 2pm and cruised around to get my bearings (first time up that way). Thanks to the guys who helped me launch (rope got caught on the trailer and dragged my boat up the ramp a bit - ugly but no harm done). Fished only as far as the cement plant and the opposite point. Trying boards for the first time I think I lost something BIG. Didn't feel a strike, just dead weight and the board started moving backwards and in line with the boat - heavy thumps. Killed the motor and slowly dragged the board in. As I unclipped the board, the line angle changed and it went slack. I raced to tighten it again but there was nothing there. Should I have left the motor running? Nothing again until well after nightfall. Unclipped the board and flatlined a HJ in 20ft around the harbour mouth with the electric. Felt a couple distinct "bumps" but who knows. I think I saw Edgy nail a beauty (overheard 13-pounder and saw a HUGE splash after a quick pic - nice to see the guys letting those go!). Just then, a few more camera flashes in the distance and my deep cycle battery dies - time to pack it in (930). Seemed like things were just heating up. Anyways, I'm not all that disappointed with my first trip. Ramp was a beauty and getting in/out posed little problem. Thanks to all the fellas who helped with tips n' such. Hope to get out one more time before the end of the open water season.
Cheers boys,
Braden
