Was able to get the weekend off for the opening, so we headed out Friday night and got the boat in the water ready for Sat AM.
We (Superdad & Superdad's Dad) got out fairly early Sat AM and had a 4.99 lb pike by 0745, not far from the Old Church on Hay Bay.
Registered it at the HAy Bay Derby at 0900 and went back out, couldn't hit a fish although many were marked along with lots of baitfish.
We had relied on the waterbeing COLD (below or close to 50 degs F) but it was over 57 degs F. Our plan had been to use long stickbaits off the in-line boards - we caught the pike and that's all.
SUperdad's Dad got another small pike on the Uzick SPinner, headed back to camp at 1200, just before the winds blew.
Enjoyed the shindig at Perfect Vue, met Jack, Fatman and bumped into Pete Bowman again. Lots of laughs and great prizes. Look forward to next years event.
Fished Sat evening around Ram is and Superdad's Dad hit a 20 incher on the UZick and Superdad hit a 18.5" keeper.
Sunday, back out over by the Old Church, trolled deep and shallow and decided to try Shermans Pt. Superdad's Dad hit a 25.5 incher on the Uzick. That was it for the day although we got out in the evening in the rain nothing was happening for us.
Superdad got out Monday late in the morning and was skunked. Monday night was the same.
Tuesday, Headed for the Long Reach, tried Thompsons Cove with an Uzick and didn't see many fish, trolled from Thompsons to the yellow marker, didn't mark many there either. Tried the west shore near Ken's Mountain and marked a lot of fish with a large number of bait fish also. Tired big and small, deep and high - zero strikes.
Over to Shermans around noon and the wind is blowing in multi-directions and I made a pass over the top and the wind blew me into 9.5 feet, Picked up a nice 20 inch eye on the Uzick. Wind too strong to go north south, so headed over to Carp Cove and trolled there towards the Shermans Launch, LOTS of bait fish, trolling the Uzick about 175' back, got another 5.0 lb pike - one for the fish fry.
The wind blew on Teusday PM - no fishing. Boat out at 1800 hrs.
Weekend results - 3 pike and 4 walleyes. Better than last year when we got one fish.
I realize this is long but it covers four days. Back to fish on the 17th & 18th.
PS - Thanks to Cottager for the phone calls
Tight Lines to all
