Quinte Fishing

I applaud the slot limit for bringing back the 'eye' population in the Bay, from what I read on here it has helped bring back the type of fishing of a few years ago.

Now my question, can someone fill me in on how the fish are to be measured? I had understood that it was from the wye in the tail to the tip of the nose. Recently a friend of mine was stopped over there by your local conservation officers who laid the fish down as flat as it would go, then measured from tip of tail to tip of nose, resulting in my friend's fish being 1/2 inch over. When the CO was asked about this, his only response was that he could take the boat in addition to the fine. Is this the way the fish are supposed to be measured or is this just a form of harassment of out of the area anglers?

The regulations state "total length unless otherwise stated". It does not show a difference for the Bay of Quinte.

I would like to apologize for my post that started this topic and any implications that may be taken from my post. I should have taken it upon my self to read the regulations rather than responding to someone else's tale of wow when they obvioulsy did not read the regulations.

There is no doubt that the individual was in the wrong in using the fork method for measuring the fish rather than the total length. The regulations are VERY clear that references to length refer to TOTAL LENGTH.

Again, I apologize for any hard feelings that my post may create.

Make sure that...You pinch the tips of the tail togather. The idea is you are measuring the maximum length of the fish.

Nose to Fork - Incorrect
Nose to Tip - Incorrect
Nose to Tips pich togather - Correct!
