“Young Guns” take top spot in Quinte Fishing Series second Bass Tournament of year.

The second of five Bass Tournaments of the Quinte Fishing Series 2004 season saw 48 boats leave the George Street ramps in Belleville at the 7:00 a.m. take off time. The “Bay” has been busy over the last two weeks with a number of tournament trails having events including the “Tips from the Tackle Box” last weekend and a one day CFT event on Saturday.
After some great weights and fish had come to the scales, the team of Mat Seeley and Steve Coady narrowly edged out the second place team of Dean Thompson and partner Mike Burriss to take the title. These “young” Belleville anglers weighed in 18.79 lbs. with Steve commenting on stage that it was one of their best days they have ever had on the water. Steve and Mat along with their first place money of $2,100.00, also received two waterproof coats compliments of Mark’s Work Warehouse, a $50.00 gift certificate from Kelsey’s-Montana’s, Belleville and two Q.F.S. Tournament Champion hats.
For the second tournament in a row, Deseronto’s Dean Thompson and Mike Burriss from Napanee took the second place position. Although these very consistent anglers weighed in a weight of 19.02 lbs., they unfortunately had a dead fish in their bag and with the penalty their weight ended up at 18.77 lbs. - just a meer .02 lbs. out of first place! For their great weight these two anglers took home $1,350.00. A weight of 17.52 lbs. gave the third place cheque of $950.00 to Mike Lukashal from Carrying Place and Brighton’s Cory Kinmond and in a very close fourth were Quinte Fishing Series 2003 “Team of the Year” runners-up, Napanee’s Andy and Darcy Asselstine with 17.51 lbs.
17.42 lbs. gave Belleville anglers, Wayne Barnes and David Reid the $550.00 for fifth place and in sixth were the Papiest brothers, Ralph and Tom, winners of the first bass tournament of the 2004 season, claiming $300.00 for their bag in at 17.02 lbs. The last of the money winners and in seventh place were Randy Jelley and Paul Lounsberry with 16.50 lbs. and they received $150.00 for their day on the water.
The H2Optix by Bolle “Big Fish” winners with a weight of 4.93 lbs. were the husband and wife team of Mike and Mary Nabulsi of Belleville. These two regular Q.F.S. anglers and sponsors of the Series (Bass Magnet Lures) took home the “Big Fish” money of $940.00 along with two pairs of quality H2Optix eyewear and trophy.
Tournament Officials were once again very pleased with the response by anglers and the number of boats in the field this weekend. As stated earlier, the Bay has been busy this past two weeks with some tremendous weights being weighed in and this once again shows what a great fishery we have on the Bay of Quinte.
The next Q.F.S. tournament will be on the 7th and 8th of August, our first two day event of the 2004 season and entries must be postmarked one week prior to the event or know later than Tuesday, August 3rd, 2004. (Monday is a holiday!) For further information please call Pete Thompson at 613-967-1024 or Rick Somerville at 613-968-7428.(Pete will be on holidays and out of town July 24th to July 31st.)
