Hey SuperDad!

How's your summer season been? I've been fish'n mostly Muskie this summer so haven't been out your way, kawartha's are closer for me :) Just wondering if your going to be on the water Sept 26 or 27. I'll be in kingston visiting family so I am for sure going to hit the bay. Plus I got a 4X4 this summer so I'll be able to launch at more of the shallow launches now :)

Hey Ranger Guy

I should be out on the 27th, there are some things brewing that might preclude me from fishing those days off.

If my plans get suppressed then I'll be fishing and will advise you.

It looks as though the boards' still having problems with internal emails as I rec'd three msgs from you.

MY fishing bud - John wants me to spend a day with him and we're gonna look for some muskies in Quinte - Could be a BIG Surprise.

I haven't done a lot of fishing this summer, only put on 55 miles during July & August, normally have a 100 miles a month.

Drop me a line when you're in Kingston

I've got pictures of ALL kinds of fish, BUT not my boat. Gee will have to resolve that one.

It's a Springbok with a Mariner 30HP and 'Mercury' decals on the sides.

I'll watch for your Ranger.

Hope to be out the first of Nov also.

TL

RangerGuy,

Nice boat !! I have one just like it. What year is your Fisherman Series? How many horses do you have on the back? Mine is only rated for 55hp and I put a 50 4stroke on it 3years ago. Wanted to go to 60 but if you get in a tournament you run into problems. In addition I have 52 lb thrust Motorguide on the bow and a 9.9 kicker on the transom also.

Hi There guest.

Thank you :) It's a 1990! in mint shape. It's a 2 stroke 60 hp Johnson same year. This is the max rating for her. How does your boat sit with the kicker on the back, is it back heavy?

I have tried a trolling plate but don't really like it. The plate pretty much stops me dead and I have to rev the motor higher to get to 1 to 1.5 mph trolling speed. So if it sits ok a kicker would be great!

Can you post a picture of your Ranger :)

Hi Rangerguy,

Mine is an '87 in pretty much cherry condition. I try to keep it that way due to the price a new boat would be.

The transom had a kicker motor scissor plate on it when I bought it but I never liked it because it was mounted on the opposite side of the main engine from the operators seat. So I bagged that and mounted the 9.9 kicker right on the transom on the seat side of the main engine. There is adequate room for both without inhibiting steering.

I have no trouble with the weight of the 2 cycle kicker and the 4 stroke 50hp main engine. I keep the kicker raised unless in use. The kicker can really keep you going slow with this rig and is nice to have as an auxillary power source in a pinch. The only thing I would recommend if you mount the kicker this way is to go to a long shaft. I have a short shaft and when mounted directly on the transom it starts to cavitate if you really wanted some power out of it. But this has no effect when doing normal trolling.

Hope this is of some help.
