Quinte Fishing

Hi guys

Can you fellows help me with some locations on the lower end of Quinte?
We usually fish out of Northport and the farthest we go is the Narrows.

This fall I want to try your area and was wondering where to launch my 18 foot aluminum (perferably on the Hwy #49 side) and some of the typical locations for trolling and jigging.

I have read about the Cement plant etc. but don't know where they are.

There is a free launch once you get over the Hwy #49 bridge.. As soon as you come over it going south, take your first right and then again, another right.. The driveway entrance is located right under the bridge.. Not worry if it looks like your headed for someones house, this is the way in... Then you can make you trek down to the Piton area to fish.. We do this with our 14 footer 30 Hp and it doesn't take that long... The only draw back is foul weather..

The launch site mentioned in the previous post will require a lengthy ride (6 - 8 miles) down Long Reach to access the main areas for the fall fishing.

Most of the activity is centered down towards Picton, either in the Harbour after dark or in Picton Bay or out in front of the Cement Plant.

There are two launch sites down that way, the Picton Launch site right in town is very popular and there is another in the Conservation area east of Picton on the road to the Glenora ferry. That's a tad rougher if the weather is bad.

If you use the Picton Site late in the fall when it is close to freezing, bring Salt along as the launch pad gets slippery.

There is a Launch Site just east of Shermans Pt, but that would require a drive thru Napanee and out towards Hay Bay. This site puts you close to Shermans and a mile from Thompsons Pt, where most of the drifting and jigging takes place as there are some deep troughs there gathering schools of fish.

The cement plant you were inquiring about is just north of picton. If you are coming to the area from highway 401 take the bridge over the telegraph narrows area which is highway 49 you will see the cement plant on the left just before Picton. Many people fish around this area trolling large baits. There is a buoy out from the plant. From this area guys work in all directions -towards the ferry,shermans point,thompsons point,and the west side of long reach.

Fish are caught both night and day but the majoity seem to come around dusk. The weather usually is o.k. but late in the season it can change quickly. Last season i was fishing out of picton bay and noticed fog moving in. Began a slow troll in from thompson's point. Just as darkness set in i was 3 km from my truck and the fog came in BIG TIME. I lost sight of shore and any lights as well. Hooked a fish and lost it but got turned around . I didn't know which way was up. Thank god i had a compass or i might still be out there.
If you have at least a 16 foot boat you should be okay in this area in all but the most severe weather we get....Haybay larry
