Quinte Fishing

Hi All,

Just got back from our annual fall trip down to the Bay of Qunite. This is actually only our second year but we will continue to do this for years after this year.

We started Thursday night will not luck. We trolled for 5 hours (9 pm to 2 am) with nothing even a strike. Friday we were out there with the sun. We finally manage to hook into a nice eye around 9:30. It tipped the scales at 9.5 lbs. Not bad for the first fish. We thought we were going to get into more fish but we trolled till the evening and didn't hook into anything else.

Friday night we revisited our plan and decided to changed things up. We got Saturday morning again with the sun. Try our initial trolling spot till around 8 am with no luck. We decided to go to plan B and it paid off. Within 10 minutes of trolling our other spot we popped a fish but unforunately we didn't land it but we new we had found the fish.

After trolling from around 8 am to 3 pm on Saturday and 8 am to 5 pm on Sunday our walleye count for the two days was 29 walleye landed and 4 lost at the boat. Amazingly enough we only had 4 eyes in the 19-25 inch slot (No fish under 19 inches). In terms of big fish we caught 7 fish over 10 lbs with the biggest being 12.3 lbs. All other fish ranged in the 5 - 9 lb range with most of these fish being between 8 and 9 lbs.

Now I can't give the location details but I can say we were using planer boards, down riggers and a weight system to get our crankbaits away from the boat and down 30-50 feet. In terms of lures there was not just one lure that produced. We had 5 or 6 lures constantly producing. The MAIN thing is you need to get the lures down to around 30-40 feet.

At any rate, a got weekend and a great way to end the open water season. Till the spring opener.

Thanks for reporting back to the board. Sounds like some awesome fish. I don't have down riggers but do use the weight systems/planer boards(snap on weights). I have a few questions. How much weight did you use for the snap weights and how many feet of line down from the board ?? Thanks

We were using 1 to 1.5 oz weights to get the baits down. We also had fairly long leads (75-100 feet). Down riggers were down at 40 feet. Planner board were 120 feet outside the boat.
