What are the chances of success without downriggers this time of year? Just reading some of the reports seems a little depressing. (ie 3 days 1 fish etc.)

Even though we had some success on the down rigger a couple of weekends ago the majority of our fish came of a snap weight system. The system is available from off shore tackle if you are interested in buying it.

Basically the idea is snap on the weith about 8 to 10 feet from you lure and then let out the line behind the boat. The added weight (we used 1 to 1.5 oz) will drop you bait between 30 and 40 feet. If you use a deep diving lure you are now fishing in the 40 to 50 feet range with no downrigger.

Now we were using a planer board system to also get the baits away from the boat but if you let out enough line, the fish shouldn't be spoked by the boat where youre lure is at.

When you are out on the watert keep trying different things. This is the MOST important thing we learned a couple weekends ago. Thursday and Friday we had only one fish and then we changed things up and caught 29 Walleye on Saturday and Sunday.

Good luck,

Mike

If you are fishing in the immediate harbour you should need nothing more than maybe planer boards. The depth through the harbour is 15 - 35 feet!!! Fish are suspended!! Hope this helps
