When my son was young I used to take him fishing for and panfish and what not. As long as they were biting he was all in but if it was slow he was done. He then went through the terrible teens and didnt do any fishing. This past summer he started to ask if we could go fishing. Awesome! Last saturday he had the day off work and wanted to fish. He doesnt care what he catches its all good. SO with that in mind we headed over to the weedflat behind the hay bay church and casted white spinnerbaits. He caught a few bass and a couple of pike, ditto here along with some walleye. Got 2 eyes into the boat and lost a third boat side. Was casting the spinnerbaits out into the 10+ feet water, letting it sink then slowly retreving back to the boat. As a dad it was great having him back in the boat.

I'm still waiting for the terrible teen thing to run its course with my oldest. I look forward to fishing with him again like you are with your son. Nice to hear it comes back around and there's still hope.

As for the Grandson part, hopefully that same terrible teen part doesn't make that happen too soon!

Thanks guys, the teen thing is a tough go and seems like a long one at times. The nice thing about when they come through it is they want to be there , didnt have to talk him into it and the time in the boat is a great time to chat about life stuff (even though he is coming around he is a teen and therefore knows everything :P )

That is great Dan, I can tell your happy from the pic. My son this year is enjoying fishing with me as well and he is a teen but his older brother well that is a different story and he is 17, so I know what you have gone through as I am experiencing it now lol.

With any luck I will see you out on the water, I will be fishing until freeze up this year.

Regards,
Sam

Great catch Dan!!! Both of my boys are teens and still ask to go fishing with the old man. [I love it] As for knowing everything, well they dont give me a hard time, might be the fact that they know I hunt as well.

Been there Dan. It's a shot to the groin when they tell you they don't want to fish with you anymore but as others have mentioned and you've experienced it is a great feeling when they come back into the fold again. I think it has more to do with being with dad than the fishing itself. Thanks for sharing.

Dan,

I can only hope my new little one (boy or girl) will enjoy the outdoors as much as I do.

Every time I see a commercial on TV urging people to take their kids outdoors, I stop and thank my grandfathers for instilling a lifelong passion within me. I'm sure we all feel the same way.

Children are the future of preserving the outdoors....
