Every year I post this link. Take a few moments to print it off and then go out and check your boat. In the past when I have been checked, in addition to the required items, they also checked that batteries in the flashlight worked and the date on my flares. Make sure you check these 2 items too. Be safe out there and know that the various enforcement agencies will be out in full force and checking boats

My boat has a built in fuel tank and it came with a 5BC fire extinguisher. I don't see an expiration date on it. Does it need to be changed out, if so how often? What do they check for on it should I get stopped?

Thanks.

They check for the charge. As long as your in the green your good. Check your gauge.

unless you dealing with hamilton marine cops.

if they can't see the expiry date, even if it is fully charged, it is no good.

if you ever want to see your civil liberties raped, come on down this way.....they will find things that no other marine cop will go after....

my 17' boat....i need a boarding device....but nowhere else on the lake....

i also need marine charts....but nowhere else on the lake....

and make sure you have your boat registration.....

Say's I need a radar reflector, I haven't even heard for that before. I usually only stay in the Quinte area, but out by the cement plant I would assume that would count as a high traffic area. My boat is a 16 ft aluminum.

Question is, how many of you have one? I have never been asked about it before.

I wondered about this also because I know boats show up on radar.

Check again, reference to note 3.

The thing with marine regs there are 2 pages of exceptions for every rule.

It reads a little funny, I thought that too at first but it says only if your boat is made of non metallic material, your good with an aluminum boat.

The way I read it seems it's only mandatory if there is more than 1'8" from the water to the top of the boats sides or back....(where a person would have to climb in)

If your not sure about your safety equipment you can call your local power squadron and arrange a courtesy check. Might save you a few $ down the line. This year trans. ca. has the paper work out earlier and they're ready to go.

you only require a re-boarding device if the vertical height that must be climbed to reboard the boat from the water is over 0.5m (18").

interesting you mention that David.

the marine cops in my area state the same height, HOWEVER, they measure at your boats HIGHEST point, not lowest point.

their reasoning is you may have to lift yourself up at the front or sides of the boat, not necessarily the back of the boat (which is generally your lowest point).

just another way why hamilton marine cops can shove it.
