Back then you'd drive across the old swing bridge, look towards the Goverment dock (Meyer's Pier now..haha) and thats where the bulk of the "village" was between the dock and Cow Island...Plywood and chipboard icehuts everywhere...wood smoke and kerosene smells...the limit was 6 walleye each...I'm sure there are some guys on here with better memories than mine...lets hear them..haha Gary

I remember when you would drive all the way down the reach between Deseronto and Thompsons .......not every year...... but some of the years the ice was very thick ........It was like there were little villages in diffrent area's.......the Bay or Thompson's point or Deseronto it was very cool ....but with declining walleye population's and milder winter's thing's have changed alot ......not to mention the portable hut explosion ......now you can drag one around and .......move a lot easier......lot's of people move around more now ......I think back then it was as much a social thing as a fishing trip.....that's why the hut's used to be all in the same area's ......now everyone want's to be off the beaten path ....away from the group's.

hell, the operators used to set up village rental towns, plowed roads, hot lunchs brought out to the huts,i believe this is where dial a jug got its start!!lol, had exterior lights on some, numbers for the streets, hell i think some were even sleep-over type units with benchbeds in em,and a head in the middle of the village!!!haha old days for sure,i think the old algan hotel was the biggest operator then,in trenton, they were crazy days, more drunks than huts or fish!!!

A "head" in the middle of the Battle of the Bay competion might be a good idea... given that there will be lots of folks actively engaged, or assisting the event. Anyone know if that could be a possibility?
