ok,ok,ok,-lets leave the discussion about fiberglass vs aluminum be,clearly each has its own pluses, advantages and dis-advantages,each have their own following,C5 is correct ,the best boat is one you fish out of,be it old, new, glass or aluminum,if your fishin its all good,lol,Ed-good fishin!!!!

you should also consider an alumacraft...in my humble ranking of a boat would be1 lund 2 alumacraft 3starcraft 4crestliner 5 tracker..its the same with cars do you want a bmw or a chevy..they both do the job, just one is better built ..i own a tracker and im happy with it...it came with many options that where addon for the alumacraft and lund...thats why i chose tracker ..that and 10000$ difference in price..

I figured this subject would stir the pot a little, thanks to all who are contributing. I am not considering any glass boats since I have taken a break from guiding and don't want to spend $60 000 +.

What I have found so far is the tracker is less money but won't suit my needs, I need to have a decent size casting deck on the front, a reasonalbe amount of rod storage and the fit + finish on the ones that they have on display @ bps didn't really do it for me. Dissappointing since the price point is good.

The Lund pro guide is a few thousand more than then tracker when equipped with the same motor (115), the crestliner is 5 grand more than the Lund???????

C5 I have owned a 620, 521, a TR21, 202DC and a 215X. My switch from Ranger to Triton was simple economics, I could purchase Tritons for 15%-20% less than Rangers with a transferable hull warranty @ the time Ranger didn't offer that. In my opinion Tritons product is in most ways as good or better (except fit and finish), my favorite boat to date is still my 215X.

i own a pro guide, any specific questions, just ask. mine is a 1998 though, and i've owned it since 2004. but they didn't change the hull much with the new models.

it's funny, i have money for a new boat, however, i cannot find a replacement. (for any amount of money).

i cannot even consider a glass boat - as my needs include ice breaking and shallow water "bottom touching"....

Steve, what motor do you have on it and what is the top speed?

How dry does it keep you in the crappy conditions?

all comes back to the Lund as it should, if it isnt a lund it would make a good anchor.

LANDSHARK -lund guy for sure, they are nice units no doubt, but the 2010-2020pro v with a 200-250 on it is as much and more than a brand new fully loaded truck for gods sakes,45-54k thats crazy for a aluminum boat,if you are looking at this much money spend the extra and get the big glass boat ,i like name brands too but at what cost?myself I couldn,t justify spending that kind of money on a boat in this economy, its kinda like the caddilac out there ,lots of people like them but drive fords, chevys, and dodges, lol, they just are not for everyone,QUALITY GUARANTEED! broke ass for sure, unless your independently wealthy, win a lotto or inherit a rich uncles estate!!again just my opinion and like ass----- everyone has one!!lol Ed-good fishin

You don't own a LUND do you

Did you upgrade or are you still running the same boat from 2009? I remember seeing you the weekend of the JB's tourney.

FinCraft makes a Glass boat and its already outfitted for fishing. The 17 ft Side Console weighs in at 1,400 lbs and offers some nice features at a very competitive price in comparison to boats in the same class whether they be Aluminum or Glass. The boat Warehouse in Kingston is a FinCraft Dealer. You can even check out a boat test video on U-Tube. My 2 Cents.

for those curious regarding crackers, although most of us know about them already, here's a recent thread regarding their quality...i'm not saying anything, however, others sure do!

http://www.ofncommunity.com/forums/inde ... 395&st=100

Pbotting, regarding "my" ride.

I have the older hull, so i dont have the huge beam width that the new ones do. My boat was designed when the intent was a "high end northern lodge" boat. By that I mean, the casting deck covers 45% of the entire boat. you can fit three full adults on it. one would be the guide, who wouldn't be fishing, but be on the trolling motor...the other two would be fishing...

I know my casting deck on my 17' lund pro guide is bigger than on my buddies 19' ranger bass boat!

As for speeds, as my hull is the narrow one, 89" beam, rather than the 94" plus beam, my hull is only rated for a 50hp tiller. I run the new 60hp tiller yamaha. I can get 31mph on it. Again, 17' with a 60hp. Now the new 17' pro guides have 90hp capacity i believe, if not, for sure 75hp. Bigger and wider.

I would expect similar speeds with the 75hp on the new 17'er compared to my 17'er with my 60hp.

the ride, well, its cold, wet, and tough. it is not a dry, comfortable ride. maybe in a 19' or 20' pro guide, but not in a 17' pro guide.

with that said, i wouldn't trade my boat in for any amount of money. I currently have 8 grand to replace my HULL (not motor or trailer) however, cannot find a suitable replacement that meets my needs...for any amount of money....

beams on boats these days are so wide that you need high horse power tillers to move them....75hp at the minimum.

my boat will allow me to fish 3" of water (yes, 3" of water) for largies through to the great lakes ... not many hulls can do that.

hope this helps....i've put my boat through more than many would put their boat through in their entire lives....and it still floats..... (kinda, lol)

with reguards to Tracker-crackers,my first tracker was a cracker too,2008 176w/t,no problems first usage, bought in november 08,in 2009 detroit river, noticed something wasnt quite right, fished anyways , took boat back to where i purchased it,they looked said found nothing wrong,ok,i then fished opener on the bay,2-3ft waves all day, windshield loosened up,took back after opener, they replaced windshield,ok,drove to put-in-bay,windshield came off the boat -oh ***,i fixed it ,fished erie-came off again,ok now im pissed, left erie early, straight to dealer-ok voiced my opinion, said they would look into it,ok,6 weeks later got it back,ok,fished lake ontario for kings, takin on water-cheched plug was in ,fished with bilge running, took back again, their welder sucks, they stripped out the boat and filled with 400 gallons water, lol,it drained out in 20 mins, lol,ok now im getting loud, owner comes out-see the problem-calls Tracker-i want a new boat on the way tomorrow-or the lawyers will be called!!!!tracker wants the boat shipped to them, hahaha, call tracker myself-usual bullshit-tell them im going to file lawsuit, including reckless endangerment and negligence, they call my dealer, new boat is in the yard as he,s talking to me,only its a 2010,new hull design,25in transom, not my problem,ok dealer adds ls kit to engine ,new trailer new everything way better and different boat,I put over 300 hrs on it this year in some heavy water and long drivesnot one issue as of yet,its a different tracker,im very impressed with this unit, and my dealer, dealt with the issue and solved it to my satisfaction!!!Ed-good fishin

I have a 1988 14 foot Lund and if she had enough HP she would break ice clear to the north pole.

i have a triton, tr186, i love it 100 %, they need more care then skeeters, ( i had a skeeter before i went to triton). my 20+ year old skeeter had less marks then my 5 year old triton has
tritons tend to scratch a bit, but a light wet sand and buff and polish will get rid of any scratch, just take more care to keep perfect.
the canadian open, in kingston, bass open, was won by a walleye boat last year. my next boat will diffently be a walleye boat, but i love my bass boat, and i am super happy with it..
dont buy a tracker, my dad has one, they are just built cheap, but that being said you get what you pay for, i would get a prince craft (canadian made), the triton walleye boats are nice too.
it all depends on what you want, and budget. but hey if you can get a 17 foot tracker for the price of a 14 foot prince craft, i would diffently go for the 17 foot tracker..
