This topic always comes up about refilling the 1lber tanks... Personally I wouldn't do it simply because the valve in the 1lber tank isnt meant to be refilled in such a manner, sometime leading to unwanted leaks....
The best and safest way to go about this is to use the 5lb or 10lb tanks which are meant to be refilled multiple times with a valve that you manually open and close.

I refill the 1 pounders off the 20 pounder with the adaptor works good . Keep the 20 pounder room temp and I put the 1 pounders in the freezer creates a natural vacuum as the warm gas heats the cold tanks fills the up good . As pointed above once in a blue I get a one pounder that wont reseal 100% small leak that I just hook up to my buddy to save gas other then that store them some where's in doors but out side. If they don't smell like propane next time your by then you have no leaks .

I refill all the time. Same procedure. 20lb warm. 1lb cold. I time my fills. 1:10sec is usually perfectly full. If the tank doesn't fill or you can't hear it transferring the 1lb is no good anymore.
