These need to be controlled as we all know before it's too late.

There's a Private Member's Bill 205 to allow the hunting and trapping of these in Ontario.

More information here. https://www.ofah.org/issues/cormorants/

It's up to all of us to help seek support for this Bill so please contact your MPP with a quick letter asking for their support as well.

I've sent the email below to our MPP Sophie Kiwala. Please feel free to edit, copy and paste to send to yours.

Hello,

I am a resident of the Kingston area and would like to show my support of this Bill. Our area and waterways have been riddled and decimated by Cormorants and it’s time something was done to save our natural resources.

Being an avid fisher / boater, I have witnessed the demise of too much of our beautiful shores and islands. The cormorants have destroyed our Brothers Islands and are the cause of the destruction of many others close to Kingston. I see literally hundreds of these birds at Collins Bay and Fort Henry water ways on a daily basis. The amount of fish they consume is overwhelming and are quickly depleting the population of bait fish and the fry of other sport fish.

I beg you to please support this Bill and help keep Kingston and the area beautiful.

Thanks will do

Send a quick email, all politicians have email addresses. You might also want to google this article to see how bad the situation is getting. Google nine men charged with slaughtering cormorants, if anyone knows how to post it please do so

The link here: http://www.nytimes.com/1999/04/09/nyreg ... shing.html

"a species protected by federal laws"? Huh?

This confirms it: "A study released in December by New York environmental scientists confirmed a link between the growth in the cormorant colony and falling fish stocks. "

For a few years in a row, in the evening, I'd hear multiple boats heading toward the Brothers Islands. Within minutes, you could hear shot guns unloading on the cormorants then the boats taking off again.

Now I don't agree with this being it's illegal but without control, all vegitation will be gone in the next couple of years.

This is a pic of the Eastern side of the Island that I took yesterday. The few trees you can see on the shore, are pretty much it.

Sad...
